When any type of timber floors are installed in apartments or townhouses, it is important to be in consultation with body corporate/strata to understand their minimum requirements for acceptable levels of noise transmission throughout the dwelling below.
Noise reduction requirements are usually simplified into AAAC Star Ratings, which are set by the National Construction Code (NCC). These star ratings are based on the technical measurement unit (L’nT,w). The lower the rating, the better the acoustic performance.
There are a wide variety of products and systems available on the market. Thin foam underlays are the most commonly used option but while cheaper in price, they tend to have a lower performance in noise reduction metrics. Alternatively, rubber based underlays, which come in many sizes and thicknesses, are the most effective products when looking to meet AAAC requirements set by Strata.
At Fenix Timber floors, we can help you through every step of the journey, meeting and exceeding body corporate/strata requirements and successfully delivering a final product that creates a quieter, more peaceful environment without compromising style or performance.
At Fenix Flooring, we believe that every timber flooring installation is a reflection of our craftsmanship and attention to detail.
